Nobody loves to cull books (well, except, perhaps for me), but it’s important to periodically review library resources to maintain a relevant and up-to-date collection that meets the needs of your school collection.
Anything that is no longer ‘fit for purpose’ needs to weeded out to keep the collection strong.
And, as with spring cleaning at home, weeding the collection needs to be scheduled into the busy school year – or, in my experience, it won’t happen! As a tip, I tend to weed one area of the school library at the start of each term, while we care collecting resources for units of work in the classroom.
Once you’ve assessed the school calendar and set aside some time, you might find yourself looking at the corner of the library and wondering where on earth to begin.
So I thought I’d share my process to get you started.
