My memories of summer holidays is riding our horses every day. The holidays seemed to last forever and on one occasion I clearly remember sitting bareback on my horse in the middle of a creek. I reached forward to feed him an apple and slipped. I was hanging with my arms and legs clinging to his neck. I couldn't right myself and had no choice but to drop into the water. Luckily it was a warm summer day.
Suttons Beach near Redcliffe involved climbing tangled trees with strong wriggly branches, exploring, hiding and having fun. We read comics on the sand, collected shells and ate fish and chips.
It’s probably of my mother saying “put that book down!”. I was (still am) such a bookworm, and regarded summer holidays as an endless series of days to read uninterrupted. My mother always wanted me to do “something else” – inevitably, something less interesting.
Actually, would you mind sending me your postal address via the contact form on my website and I'll get the book out to you asap: https://allisontait.com/contact-2/
Thank you so much! I think at least two of my kids (to whom I only ever say “put that book down” when they’re attempting to do something that is physically impossible to do with a book in your hand) will enjoy this. And so will I – I like to read what my kids are reading.
And no problem, I'll send you my address via that form now.
My memories of childhood summer are days of reading whilst everyone else watches the cricket and then my brother playing Test Match, the game, and dragging me into it. We also had a pool so there were days we were in and out of the pool with the dog chasing us as we swam - he would run around the pool trying to catch the splashes of water.
Thank you to everyone who entered to win the signed copy of THE FIRST SUMMER OF CALLIE McGEE! Fellow bookworm Lorraine Cormack is the winner. Stay tuned for another comp soon!
